Orientation days for International students at the University of Iceland began yesterday and continue until 23 August. Over six hundred international students begin their studies at the University this autumn, thereof 235 exchange students and almost 400 degree students. The programme includes various interesting courses, organised walks around campus, reception with music and grilled hot dogs, School welcome meetings and events organised by the Student Council.
The course, The Keys to Success at the University of Iceland, organised by the UI Student and Career Counselling will be available, where students are given pointers on how to succeed in their studies at the University, and enjoy their stay in Iceland. For those wanting a crash course in Icelandic can sign up for Icelandic in 90 minutes. The National and University Library will furthermore give a glimpse of what they have to offer.
All new international students are invited to a welcome reception 22 August at the University Centre. Students will be addressed by the Rector of the University and Jóna Þórey Pétursdóttir, president of the Student Council. The Student Council's international committee takes students on a guided tour around the Campus ending in a barbecue and live music. The programme will be continued in the Student Cellar.
The aim is to introduce students to each other as well as to the support services offered, how to get around campus, and to help them adjust to a new culture.
