Two of the visiting professors at the University of Iceland Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Jocelyn Chanussot and Ian F. Akyildiz, are ranked on the Clarivate Analytics list of the most influential researchers in the world.
Clarivate Analytics has published this list for the last few years, ranking the top 1% by citations for each field of study and publication year in international science journals. The list is based on data from the database Web of Science.
As previously stated both Jón Atli Benediktsson, Rector of the University of Iceland, and Kári Stefánsson, CEO of deCODE genetics and professor at the University's Faculty of Medicine, are also placed on the list as is Bernharð Örn Pálsson, professor at the University of California San Diego and visiting professor at the University of Iceland.
Jocelyn Chanussot is a professor at the Grenoble Institute of Technology in France and is specialised in remote sensing, which involves taking digital images from planes and satellites and using these to extract data regarding the Earth's surface. He has been a guest lecturer at the University of Iceland Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering since 2013 and has worked in close collaboration with the faculty. Chanussot has taught courses, supervised graduate students, and written scientific articles with other faculty.
Ian F. Akyildiz is professor emeritus at the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology and has a successful career in telecommunication research. He became a visiting professor at the University's Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering this autumn and will work with the faculty in strengthening research in the field of telecommunication as well as teaching. He will offer a new elective course, the Internet of things, in spring 2021.
