Still among the most influential scientists in the world

Six research scientists affiliated with the University of Iceland are among the 3,500 most highly cited researchers in the world according to a recent list published by Clarivate Analytics. Close to 40 researchers within the Aurora collaboration are currently on the list. 

Clarivate Analytics publishes annually a list of the most highly cited researchers worldwide. Ranking the top 1% by citations for field of study and publication year in international science journals. The criteria are citations during a certain annual period.

A group of Icelandic and international research scientists working in Iceland have had a place on the list in recent years; emphasizing the strength of the Icelandic scientific community. Nine researchers affiliated with the University of Iceland, DeCode and the Icelandic Heart Association made the new Clarivate list this year.   

Furthermore, the list of highly cited researchers includes 37 research scientists from the nine European universities that make up the new Aurora network that the University of Iceland is a part of. The Vrije-University Amsterdam has 12 representatives on the list, but the University of Iceland comes second with six direct representatives.
