“Remember the Fall?” - Call for seminars

Registration for the conference “Remember the Fall?” has started. The conference will be held on 6 October, 2018 at the University of Iceland. 

The aim of the conference is to communicate to the general public the research of academics and students from the University of Iceland and other institutions on the cause and effect of the Icelandic economic crisis in the autumn of 2008. The conference will look at the crisis from a wide perspective, for example by examining the changes the crash caused in Icelandic society, what we can learn from it and its impact on various institutions, culture and the social discourse. We encourage people from different academic fields, within and outside the University of Iceland, to collaborate in organising seminars. However, seminar coordinators must be employees of the University of Iceland. 

Academics and specialists who are interested should send in a 70-word abstract with description for a seminar and three to four titles for 15-20 minute lectures given at the seminar. The abstract should include a short description of the topic or aim of the seminar and its general conclusion and lessons. The abstracts will be published on the conference website and used for promotional purposes. 

The deadline for applications is 15 May 2018. 

Applicants are alse encouraged to send in proposals for hosting different events related to the topic at the University during the conference (panel discussions, movie screenings, art performances, etc.).

The conference’s programme committee will go through all applications and select seminars. Information about selected proposals will be provided around 15 June 2018. The programme committee consists of Berglind Rós Magnúsdóttir, senior lecturer, nominated by the School of Education, Professor Jón Karl Helgason, nominated by the School of Humanities, Professor Kristín Loftsdóttir, nominated by the School of Social Science, Magnús Diðrik Baldursson, office director, nominated by the Rector, Professor Ragnar Sigurðsson, nominated by the School of Engineering and Natural Sciences, and Rúnar Vilhjálmsson, nominated by the School of Health Sciences.
