Meenakashi Lekhi, India´s Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture, will hold a public lecture at the University of Iceland Aula, Friday 19 August at 10 am. The lecture is open to all space allowing.

The lecture is entitled India@75: India´s Role in a Changing World. It will cover relations between Iceland and India over the past 50 years as well as new avenues of cooperation, the two nations´ contributions on the international stage, lessons learned from the pandemic, climate issues, and challenges of the present century and India’s approach to the evolving situation.

This year marks 75 years since India became an independent nation and 50 years since Iceland and India established diplomatic relations. The two countries work together in many different areas, such as business affairs, culture, science & technology, and language teaching.

Meenakashi Lekhi took office as Minister of State for External Affairs and Minister of State for Culture in July 2021. She worked as a lawyer for many years and was first elected to the Parliament of India in 2014. She has built a reputation based on social reform and protecting the rights of women and children.
