The first University Concert this academic year will take place at the University Centre on Wednesday 12 October at 12.15. There will also be a live stream from the concert
A new academic year, a new beginning, a new future: a fitting moment to invite KUSK - the vocal artist Kolbrún Óskarsdóttir to perform for us. She won the annual musical competition in Iceland this spring Músíktilraunir in style. At the young age of nineteen she is the first to win as an individual act in the competition's forty year history!
Kolbrún is a worthy representative of a new generation in music, with new themes and ideals, in fashion, environmental politics and music. KUSK is very successful now with a clear contemporary message, riding the same wave as other female artists like Bríet and GDRN. KUSK has a strong stage presence, and her music is a cool electronic mélange, with hints of Vök and GusGus.
The concert takes place on Wednesday 12 October and start at 12.15. KUSK will perform at the University Centre (Háskólatorg) opposite the University Bookstore (Bóksala). There will also be a live stream from the concert and a recording made available on the concert website. So whether you are in the city, out in the country or anywhere else in the world you can enjoy the wonderful sound from the University concert series and get a taste of the atmosphere on campus.
The concert is open to all and free of charge.
About the University Concert series
For decades, half a century really, this tradition of University concerts has been alive at the University of Iceland. These are monthly events during autumn and spring semester, and take place in University buildings. The new organiser and artistic director is dr. Arnar Eggert Thoroddsen who says he is guided by the slogan "University for all - Music for all". Arnar says he takes his slogan seriously and will seek collaboration with musicians in diverse genres, such as pop/rock, jazz, classical music or just what is promising at each point in time.
