What is the societal impact of research at the University of Iceland and what is its value? These questions and others concerning the societal impact of University research will be tackled at a conference in the University's Aula on Tuesday, 11 October between 1 and 4 pm. A new website dedicated to the societal impact of research scientists at the University has been launched, where scientist can send in information on the societal impact of their research.
The Strategy of the University of Iceland is entitled "A Better University for a Better Society", and one of the main focal points is supporting and impacting societal development, both with dynamic studies and diverse knowledge creation through research.
Short talks and group discussions
The societal impact of research can be multifaceted and at the conference on 11 October both domestic and international specialists will discuss what societal impact of research entails, how the public can be mobilised in research work, and examples of societal impact of research in Iceland will be given. Group discussions are also on the agenda, and the ideas presented will consequently be taken further; especially those concerning the societal impact of research within the University of Iceland.

Send in a postcard on societal impact
The web also lists factors that can increase the societal value of research and how research can in general impact various aspects of society and the environment. The website also features short anecdotes or postcards on how research scientist from all fields of study at the University contribute to society with their research. University research scientists are also invited to send in a short description or a postcard on the societal impact of their research.
