Participants in Academy for Woman Entrepreneurs (AWE) are currently in Bifröst for a workshop and training. The workshop includes diverse training in developing of business ideas, excellent opportunities for networking and comparing notes. The journey began in Fab lab in Breiðholt where the participants were introduced to possible opportunities to develop and present their business ideas.
AWE is a worldwide platform for women organized by the University of Iceland in collaboration with the American Embassy in Iceland. AWE aims at supporting women in further developing their business ideas and increasing their presence in innovation and entrepreneurship. AWE was launched for the third time in Iceland last month with women behind 23 business ideas. The AWE programme is mostly conducted on-line as many of the participants come from all over Iceland, are of all ages and origin; which is in-line with the emphasis of the participation selection criteria.
However, the programme includes a few workshops and over twenty entrepreneurs from all over Iceland participated in one that is taking place in Bifröst. The workshop was held at Bifröst University where the rector, Margrét Jónsdóttir Njarðvík met with the participants and motivated the women with her story. Sandra Mjöll Jónsdóttir Buch, managing director of the University of Iceland Science Institute, and mentor in AWE then led the group with various practical advice and drills as the aim of the trip is to exercise presentation and pitching business ideas.
The Academy for Woman Entrepreneurs (AWE) is organised in collaboration with the American Embassy in Iceland. Other collaborators are the Association of Business Women in Iceland (FKA), Young Professional women (UAK), and Women of multicultural ethnicity network in Iceland. AWE is an initiative from the United States and is offered in over 80 countries all over the world and Iceland is the first of the Nordic countries to participate.
