Iceland Ocean Cluster offers students at the University of Iceland who are working on projects, research or innovation related to the blue economy, facilities in a creative environment in the Ocean Cluster House in Grandagarður.
Blue economy covers anything related to oceans, lakes and rivers and the resources found there, whether it be affiliated with fisheries, bioengineering, fish farming, scientific work or other subjects.
The Iceland Ocean Cluster’s mission is to create value by connecting entrepreneurs, businesses and knowledge in the marine industries. The cluster is currently made up of 70 companies of various makes and models; including start-up companies originating in the University of Iceland.
Cluster facilities for students at the University of Iceland were first offered last summer and the initiative was well received. The space is designed for 8 - 10 students who can use the facilities at their convenience for shorter or longer periods of time. This forum is thus ideal for those working on seasonal projects or theses or other temporary projects. Admission is not limited to specific faculties within the University; all students working on projects affiliated with the blue economy are welcome.
Those interested in using the facilities can contact Berta Daníelsdóttir, CEO of the Iceland Ocean Cluster (berta@sjavarklasinn.is), or Sæunn Stefánsdóttir, Director of University of Iceland's Institute of Research Centres and a Consultant at the Rector's Office (saeunnst@hi.is).
