Ching Yi Tsai, Research Specialist at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering gives the lecture Numerical analysis of U-shaped reinforced concrete walls.
Abstract
In both the June 2000 South Iceland earthquakes and the May 2008 Ölfus earthquake, structural failures were observed in reinforced concrete (RC) wall buildings in the most affected regions. Therefore, it is worth to utilize numerical modeling techniques to back-calculate these detected damages, calibrate the models, and then use them to evaluate the seismic vulnerability of RC structures in Iceland and to develop fragility curves. As part of the research project SERICE (Seismic Risk in Iceland) sponsored by RANNÍS, this study aims to develop the numerical modeling techniques to investigate the seismic behaviors of the RC walls and validate models with experimental results.
The lecture is organized by the UI Engineering Institute
