Roberto Paolucci, Professor at Politecnico di Milano gives the lecture Developments related to seismic action in the next generation of Eurocode 8.

The lecture is held in association with the research project SERICE (Seismic Risk in Iceland)

About the speaker

Roberto Paolucci is full Professor of Structural Mechanics at the Civil and Environmental Engineering School of Politecnico di Milano, Italy, holding the chair of Engineering Seismology. From 2011 to 2018, he has directed the PhD School in Structural, Seismic and Geotechnical Engineering.

Since 2016, as a member of the Project Team SC8.T1, he has contributed to drafting the revision of Part 1 of Eurocode 8 (EN1998-1), being the main author of the section related to site classification and seismic actions for design.

Since 2018, he is a nominated member of the Italian “Commissione Grandi Rischi”, the scientific-technical consulting committee of the Italian Department of Civil Protection, holding the appointment of coordination of the task group on Seismic Risk.

He has an experience of about 30 years of participation in different national and international research projects, mainly dealing with seismic hazard studies, geotechnical earthquake engineering, dynamic soil-structure interaction, high-performance computing in elastodynamics.

He directed, for several consulting companies in geotechnical engineering, seismic hazard assessment studies aimed at definition of seismic input for major industrial plants in different parts of the world, including analyses of site amplification, slope stability, liquefaction.

He is presently Associate Editor of the Bulletin of Earthquake Engineering.
