Are Our Kids All Right? What Can We Do to Help Our Children Navigate Current Challenges to Growing Up Both In School and In the Home.

Jeffrey D. Wilhelm, Distinguished Professor of Boise State University in Boise, Idaho USA. Author of 42 books on adolescent development and learning, including the recent FIGHTING FAKE NEWS (Corwin, 2023).This interactive session will review the major findings of two long-term studies of boys and their lives inside and outside of school, as well as recent research on the mental health of all young adults. We will highlight connections to how disengagement, depression, anxiety, and other issues are tied to traditional notions of learning/schooling, to social media use, and to a lack of faith in reliable information. Implications for instructional and cultural/parenting practices that can engage and assist boys – and young women as well - will be highlighted – including how to promote micro-cultures that promote mutual respect and healthy dialogue around contentious issues, that build community and resilience, and that value understanding and respecting how knowledge is constituted and justified in disciplines like journalism, science and social science.

For parents, teachers and other interested. In English.

Tickets are sold at Tix.
