Brynja Þorgeirsdóttir’s research focuses on emotions, the body, and sensibilities in Old Norse literature; the interaction of prose and poetry in the Íslendingasögur; skaldic poetry; and Old Norse medical and scientific texts. She has published numerous articles and book chapters on these subjects and is co-editor of The Prosimetrum of the Íslendingasögur: Aesthetic and Narrative Effects (De Gruyter, 2024), Saga Emotions (Manchester University Press, 2025), and New Studies on Emotion in Old Norse Literature (Brepols, 2026).
She is Co-Investigator, together with Gareth Lloyd Evans (University of Oxford), on the AHRC-funded Old Norse Emotions Network, an international research collaboration exploring the study of emotions in Old Norse literature and culture. She also leads the University of Iceland Research Fund project Old Norse Medical Texts (2026–2028), which investigates vernacular medicine, scientific knowledge, and the transmission of medical learning in medieval Iceland and the wider Nordic world.
