My research field within nursing is patient education, and nursing care of surgical patients and cardiac patients. Also, competence and career pathway of nurses within these fields. Main concepts in research are self-care, health literacy, knowledge, empowerment, postoperative recovery and patient engagement.

Abstract

I am an associate professor in the Department of Education and Diversity at the University of Iceland's School of Education. I completed my PhD in sociology from the University of Iceland in 2018 and have worked at the School of Education since 2019. My research spans from gender identities of young people to disasters and their impact on disabled people. In recent years, my theoretical perspective has mainly been affect, discourse, microaggression and ableism. In my research, I use feminist critical disability theory to understand the reality and experiences of disabled people, using qualitative research methods.

Abstract

I am an expert on medieval learned works and Old Norse literature, within which I have primarily researched the supernatural and paranormal, monsters, proto-racism and dehumanization towards ethnic others, e.g. blámenn, skrælingjar, Fennoscandic tröll.
Other research interests include classical influence on medieval Icelandic literature, maternal imagination, folklore, horror in literature and film, creative writing in education, teaching medieval literature in middle and high schools.

Currently I am working on a monograph on blámenn as dehumanized ethnic others, the first of its kind.
