My research group focuses on catalysis in bioinorganic and inorganic chemistry. In bioinorganic chemistry we study catalytic drugs as treatment for cyanide poisoning working with synthesis, and analytical chemistry. We collaborate on projects in cellular molecular biology and animal studies to investigate mechanism of the catalytic drugs, and their fate and efficacy. In inorganic chemistry we study catalysis of a) activation and incorporation of CO2 into polymers as retrosynthesis of known commercial compounds, and b) copolymerization of sulfur monomers to form sulfur-rich copolymers for glue application. All three projects have received University of Iceland's Science and Innovation awards, in 2013, 2022, and 2023, in different categories recognizing the group projects as significant and important for advances in science and contributing to the United Nations Sustainable goal development (SDG's). The group has participated in several COST research networks, is active in student exchanges, and internship training, and is well connected within Europe, USA and Australia.
