I am a full-time Associate Professor at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Iceland. My research focuses on the development of nanocarriers for targeted drug delivery, particularly in cancer treatment. The goal of my work is to enhance the therapeutic effect of drugs on target cells while minimizing off-target effects. To achieve this, I utilize extracellular vesicles (EVs), nanoscale vesicles naturally released by human cells, and engineer them to reslease EVs with specific affinity for receptor-positive cancers. This approach allows for the design of EVs that can seletively target cancer cells, improving treatment outcomes.
Through the work of my research group, I have established collaborations with colleagues who share interest in EVs, including researchers in the USA, Czech Republic and Spain
