I am an associate professor at the University of Iceland Department of Social Work. I completed my thesis in sociology at Oxford University in autumn 2013. I was employed at Statistics Iceland between 2013 and 2020. Moved into my current position mid year 2020. My research is mostly quantiative. Theory wise I am a methodological individualist. A Popperian at heart I see the role of social sciences to give as accurate description of social reality as possible and test explanations for the observed state of affairs. If you are into critical theory or continental sociology I am probably not the thesis supervisor for you.
I am active in a handsful of international research projects having to do with employment of the elderly and children‘s quality of life. I am a member of the European Social Policy Analysis Network, an expert network that advices the European Commission. I am on the board of the Nordic section of the European Social Policy Network.
I have a great deal of experience working with civil administration, both at state and municipal level, as well as various stakeholder associations.
