A large group of international students embark on their studies at the University of Iceland this autumn and they attended orientation week at the end of August with various presentations and events. The main event was held in extremely good weather outside by the University gym and celebrations continued at the Student Cellar.

The large group of international students this autumn comprises almost a thousand degree students at the University, and almost 300 exchange students who are here thanks to cooperative agreements between the University of Iceland with other universities around the globe. The number of new international students continues to grow from year to year.

The orientation for international students was held from 23 to 25 August to facilitate the students' first steps at the University and hopefully make the most of their stay here.

The course, the Keys to Success at the University of Iceland, organised by the UI Student and Career Counselling was offered to students; giving them pointers on how to succeed in their studies at the University. Another option for international students was a crash course in Icelandic: Icelandic in 90 minutes. The National and University Library ran sessions introducing students to the library and available services. Furthermore, students could meet peer mentors from the student body at a mentor-mingle.

The weather in Reykjavík was at its very best during orientation so the annual international student reception was held outside by the University gym. Jón Atli Benediktsson, Rector, Friðrika Harðardóttir, Director of the International Division, and Rakel Anna Boulter, President of the Student Council addressed and welcomed the students. This was followed by a barbecue with hot dogs and sodas whilst DJ Ragga Hólm entertained the crowd. The students then filled the Student Cellar during the evening where the Student Council's International Committee had a pub quiz.

The University of Iceland welcomes this diverse and impressive group to Iceland and hopes they enjoy their stay.
