Abstract

My research focuses mainly on histopathology and molecular pathology of cancer of the lower gastrointestinal tract (mainly locally advanced) and cancer of unknown primary. I defended my PhD thesis in 2016 at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The title of the thesis was "Developments in pathology assessment, prognosis and stratified treatment of colorectal cancer". Since then I have focused on the pathogenesis of peritoneal metastases from colorectal and appendiceal cancer. I have also studied cancer of unknown primary aiming at identifying the origin of these cancer by using whole genome sequencing and comparative molecular pathology.
