The Division of Information Technology is made up of three departments, the Software Development Department, the IT Service Department and the Projects Department
Software Development Department
The role of the Software Department is to develop and maintain software solutions that support the missions of public universities and advance Ui’s strategic objectives. The Department’s main responsibility is to develop and maintain Ugla, the University’s primary information system. The Department is made up of:
- the teaching and learning team,
- the human resources team,
- the web team and
- the infrastructure team.
IT Service Department
The role of the IT Service Department is to assist staff and students with issues related to the IT services used in work and study at the University of Iceland and partner institutions. The IT Service Department oversees management of centralised services such as the DIT Service Desk, Menntaský, Ugla, network connections, workstation hire, equipment set up, computer labs, high performance computing, data storage, etc.
Procurement of IT equipment is the responsibility of the purchasing manager, but set up and delivery of the equipment is handled by user services. The IT Service Department serves all employees and students at Icelandic public universities, as well as contacts at other universities that use Menntaský. The Department is made up of:
- the systems team,
- the network team and
- the user services team.
Projects Department
The Projects Department manages services and consulting within DIT and supports the work of other departments by promoting good practice in the selection, implementation and management of IT solutions at the University of Iceland. The role of the Projects Department is to document and improve procedures and methods for the creation and management of IT solutions and to be actively involved in quality management.
