Two new school deans and 12 faculty heads took office at UI on 1 July, the same day that the University of Iceland University Consortium became a reality, officially establishing the University of Iceland at Hólar as an affiliated institution made up of three faculties.
Haraldur Bernharðsson is the new Dean of the School of Humanities, taking over from Ólöf Garðarsdóttir. Freyja Hreinsdóttir has also taken over from Kolbrún Þ. Pálsdóttir as Dean of the School of Education.
At the School of Social Sciences, Þóroddur Bjarnason took office as Head of the Faculty of Sociology, Anthropology and Folkloristics, with Ragna Kemp Haraldsóttir as deputy head. Freydís Freysteinsdóttir is now Head of the Faculty of Social Work with Kolbeinn H. Stefánsson as deputy. Stefanía Óskarsdóttir has taken over as Head of the Faculty of Political Science with Hulda Þórisdóttir as deputy, while earlier this year Ásta Dís Óladóttir became Head of the Faculty of Business Administration with Gylfi Dalmann Aðalsteinsson as deputy.
At the School of Health Sciences, Eydís Kr. Sveinbjarnardóttir took over as Head of the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery with Þóra Jenný Gunnarsdóttir as deputy head. Atli Ágústsson became Head of the Department of Physical Therapy with Haraldur Björn Sigurðsson as deputy.
At the School of Humanities, new heads took office for all faculties: Eyja Margrét Jóhönnu Brynjarsdóttir as Head of the Faculty of Philosophy, History and Archaeology with Orri Vésteinsson as deputy, Rúnar Már Þorsteinsson as Head of the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies with Sigríður Guðmarsdóttir as deputy, Ásgrímur Angantýsson as Head of the Faculty of Icelandic and Comparative Cultural Studies with Sif Ríkharðsdóttir as deputy, and finally Þórhallur Eyþórsson as Head of the Faculty of Languages and Cultures with Kristín Ingvarsdóttir as deputy.
At the School of Education, Margrét Sigmarsdóttir took over as Head of the Faculty of Health Promotion, Sport and Leisure Studies, with Ársæll Már Arnarsson standing in for her until the new year. Ástríður Stefánsdóttir will be deputy head. Svava Pétursdóttir is now Head of the Faculty of Education and Pedagogy, with Sara Margrét Ólafsdóttir as deputy.
At the School of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Hafsteinn Einarsson is now Head of the Faculty of Industrial Engineering,
Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science with Sigrún Nanna Karlsdóttir as deputy. Halldór Geirsson is the new deputy head of the Faculty of Earth Sciences.
As noted above, UI and Hólar University officially united at the start of this month, meaning that UI is now a consortium university, with HU operating as an affiliated institution under the new name of the University of Iceland at Hólar. The University of Iceland at Hólar is made up of three faculties. Bjarni Kristófer Kristjánsson is Head of the Faculty of Aquaculture and Fish Biology, Ingibjörg Sigurðardóttir is Head of the Faculty of Rural Tourism and Víkingur Gunnarsson is Head of the Faculty of Equine Science.
