Recently, a group of Sprettur mentors graduated during a celebratory ceremony held in the Main Building of the University of Iceland. Over the past two semesters, the mentors have played an active role in fostering an inclusive university community where everyone is welcome, providing both academic and social support to participants.

The role of a Sprettur mentor is both diverse and rewarding. Throughout the academic year, the mentors organized a wide range of workshops, game nights, engaging lectures, and guided hikes and walking tours. Alongside these activities, they supported participants in learning Icelandic and other subjects taught at the University of Iceland.

Following the graduation ceremony, an end-of-year celebration was held at Setberg, where many of Sprettur’s activities regularly take place. Mentors, participants, and staff gathered to enjoy music, delicious refreshments, games, and the friendships that have grown throughout the academic year.

Mentors, participants, staff, and guests enjoy the festivities together at Sprettur's end-of-year celebration.

Those in attendance were asked to describe Sprettur in a single word. The most common answer was simply: “friendship.”

Applications are now open for mentors for the upcoming academic year, and anyone interested in becoming part of a vibrant community, supporting fellow students, and gaining valuable experience is encouraged to apply. Participation as a Sprettur mentor is worth 5 ECTS credits, regardless of the participant’s field of study.
