Tourist guide training - Destination Iceland is designed to provide students with a thorough and professional education in tour guiding in Iceland. The programme is suitable for anyone who wants to prepare to work as a tour guide in Iceland. The programme is 30 ECTS, which can be transferred to the BS programme in tourism studies at UI. 

It is entirely taught at the UI Continuing Education Institute and you can only apply on the Continuing Education Institute website. 

Cost 

Students on the tourist guide training programme do not pay the registration fee at the University of Iceland. They do pay tuition fees at the UI Continuing Education Institute. The tuition fees cover the entire cost of the programme.

An Icelandic matriculation examination or an equivalent qualification.

Applicants with qualifications from a school abroad who plan to enrol in an undergraduate programme taught in Icelandic at the Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences must also pass a special entrance exam in Icelandic.

The programme comprises 30 ECTS credits and is organised as a one-year, full-time programme of study. Students must complete all compulsory courses listed below, including a mandatory domestic study tour.
