Margrét Sigrún Sigurðardóttir, professor in the Faculty of Business, has been appointed the director of the Division of Academic Affairs at the University of Iceland. She will take over from Kristinn Andersen on 1 April.
Margrét Sigrún completed a PhD in organisational theory from Copenhagen Business School in 2010, a master’s degree in strategic management in 2004 from the University of Iceland, and a bachelor's degree in philosophy in 1998, from the same university. Additionally, she has completed a diploma in education studies from the University of Iceland.
Through her work, Margrét Sigrún has gained extensive expertise in developing higher education curricula and teaching methods, as well as in implementing policy. She has worked for the University of Iceland for years, including as the Dean of the School of Business from July 2025, and as a teacher at the same faculty from 2010. She served as the director of teaching development and chair of the School of Sociology’s Teaching Committee from 2017 to 2022. She also served as a member of the University of Iceland and Landspitali’s Intellectual Property Committee (Hugverkanefnd) and as chair of the School of Business’ Master’s Studies Committee (meistaranámsnefnd). Additionally, she served as strategy implementation officer in the School of Social Sciences and was a member of the Self-Evaluation Committee in the School of Business (sjálfsmatsnefnd).
Margrét Sigrún was a member of the Preparatory Committee for the founding of the Teaching Academy of the Public Universities in 2021 and was chair of the Teaching Academy’s board from 2022 to 2023.
The Division of Academic Affairs is one of the university’s central divisions. The division manages common matters related to teaching and learning, including admissions and student registration, learning assessment, student counselling, teaching matters, and exams.
