Erla Hulda Halldórsdóttir, a Professor of History in the Faculty of Philosophy, History and Archaeology, has been awarded a prize from the Royal Gustavus Adolphus Academy for Swedish Folk Culture. She received the Torsten Jancke Foundation award for her research into gender history and literacy, in which she innovatively used letters as a crucial source for 19th-century biographical studies. The award ceremony will take place at Uppsala Castle on November 6th, and the prize money is 70,000 Swedish Krona.

Erla Hulda Halldórsdóttir specialises in women's and gender history of the 19th and 20th centuries. She has also conducted research on letter writing, women's historiography, and historical biographies. She has published numerous articles on her research both in Iceland and abroad. She is the author of the books Nútímans konur. Menntun kvenna og mótun kyngervis á Íslandi 1850–1903, Ég er þinn elskari. Bréf Baldvins Einarssonar til Kristrúnar Jónsdóttur 1825-1832, and Strá fyrir straumi. Ævi Sigríðar Pálsdóttur 1809-1871. She is also a co-author of the book Konur sem kjósa: Aldarsaga, which was published in 2020.
