The University of Iceland and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston have signed a collaboration agreement that opens new opportunities for master’s students at the University of Iceland to undertake part of their studies at this prestigious American institution.

Bhaskar Pant and Malgorzata Hedderick from MIT Professional Education, a division of MIT responsible for industry engagement and international collaboration, recently visited the University of Iceland and signed the agreement with Jón Atli Benediktsson, former Rector of the University of Iceland. This was the last international agreement signed by Jón Atli during his tenure as Rector.

The agreement grants access to the Advanced Study Program at MIT, enabling master’s students from the University of Iceland to study there for one or two semesters. The studies undertaken at MIT will be credited towards their degree at the University of Iceland. This represents a unique opportunity for master’s students across various academic disciplines.

In addition to the former Rector, the meeting with Pant and Hedderick was attended by Sigurður Magnús Garðarsson, Dean of the School of Engineering and Natural Sciences; Magnús Þór Torfason, Dean of the School of Social Sciences; Friðrika Harðardóttir, Director of the International Division; and Magnús Gunnlaugur Þórarinsson, Project Manager at the International Division.
