Almost 2,800 candidates will graduate with undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Iceland on Saturday, 14 June. This is Jón Atli Benediktsson's last graduation ceremony as rector of the University of Iceland. 

There will be two graduation ceremonies taking place in Laugardalshöll, marking 30 years since the University of Iceland began holding graduation ceremonies there. There will be a live feed from both ceremonies.

These are the last graduation ceremonies for Jón Atli Benediktsson as rector, as his term comes to an end at the end of June. A total of 31,737 candidates have graduated from the University of Iceland since he took office.

In the first graduation ceremony, which starts at 10 am, undergraduate and postgraduate candidates from the Schools of Social Sciences, Health Sciences, and Humanities receive their degree certificates. The total number of graduates from the School of Social Sciences is 744, 581 from the School of Health Sciences, and 447 from the School of Humanities.

The second one starts at 1.30 P.M. for candidates graduating from undergraduate and graduate studies from the Schools of Education and Engineering and Natural Sciences. The total number of graduates from the School of Education is 711 and 296 from the School of Engineering and Natural Sciences.

The total of graduating students from the University of Iceland on 14 June is thus 2,779. 

Jón Atli Benediktsson, rector of the University of Iceland will address both ceremonies, and Þorsteinn Magnússon, who will graduate with a BS degree in business administration, and Ásthildur Bertha Bjarkadóttir, BA in Education studies, will also give speeches at their respective ceremonies on behalf of the candidates. 

The University of Iceland awarded degrees to 462 candidates in February, bringing the total number of graduates so far this year to 3,241.

Students due to graduate have received a letter with further details on the organisation of the ceremony, and University staff will be on site to assist and guide candidates on seating arrangements.
