The annual Iceland Innovation Week will take place from 12-16 May, and as usual, the University of Iceland and its affiliates will actively participate with events on the university campus.

The Innovation Week has been held in Iceland since 2020, and the University of Iceland has been involved from the beginning, as innovation is one of the fundamental aspects of the university's work. In recent years, the annual Science and Innovation Awards of the University of Iceland have been presented during the week, and this year is no exception. The award ceremony will take place in the Main Building’s Ceremonial Hall on Monday, 12 May at noon, where awards will be given in four categories, and the overall winner of the competition will be announced. The ceremony is open to all.

On Tuesday, 13 May at 2:15 pm, the university will host an event at Gróska in collaboration with Auðna – Technology Transfer Office Iceland and the company RetinaRisk on science-driven innovation. The event will discuss bringing ideas from the research lab to practical use in society. RetinaRisk is based on research by scientists at the University of Iceland, and the company has developed software in the form of a risk calculator that automatically assesses the risk of a diabetic individual developing eye diseases and vision impairment due to diabetes. More details about the event can be found here.

Throughout Innovation Week, the final session of the Spark Social course at the University of Iceland will take place. Spark Social is an international innovation course that the university organizes in collaboration with other schools within the Aurora University Network. Dozens of students from Aurora universities come together to work on social innovation projects and solutions to contemporary challenges. Participants in Spark Social will also attend events organised by Iceland Innovation Week.

Additionally, on Friday 16 May, KLAK - Icelandic Startups will celebrate its 25th anniversary, and the University of Iceland is among its owners and supporters. KLAK - Icelandic Startups provides diverse support and accelerators for both entrepreneurs and is housed in Gróska in Vatnsmýri. The anniversary celebration will take place there and will start at 5 pm.

The full schedule of Iceland Innovation Week can be found on the week's website.
