The second round of the election for the position of Rector at the University if Iceland will be held on 26 and 27 March between Magnús Karl Magnússon, professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Silja Bára R. Ómarsdóttir, professor at the Faculty of Political Science.
Since no candidate received a majority of the votes cast in the rector elections on 18 and 19 March, a second election is needed in accordance with the Regulation of the University of Iceland. Voting starts at 9 am on Wednesday 26 March and ends on Thursday 27 March at 5 pm. Voting will take place on Ugla, the university´s intranet.
The same electoral register will be used in the second election. The total number of voters on the electoral register is 14,557. This includes 1,752 members of staff and 12,805 students. If you have any trouble voting for personal or technical reasons, staff from the UI Division of Information Technology will be on hand to help. If you need help, please come to the Service Desk in the University Centre between 9 am and 3 pm on either election day.
Even though it is natural and normal for staff to show support for individual candidates and actively participate in the discussions about the election, the election committee appeals to staff and students not to use their access to email lists or other communication channels at the university to convey their position on issues related to the election or to encourage voters to vote for a certain candidate.
