Information pages regarding the rector elections at the University of Iceland have been opened on the University's Icelandic and English websites. The elections take place on 18 and 19 March 2025.

The websites contain key information about the election process and the candidates for the position. Eight applicants were deemed to meet the eligibility criteria according to the decision of the University Council of the University of Iceland, but one has withdrawn their application. Seven candidates are thus running for the position of rector at the University of Iceland.

Further information on the election process will be added to the pages in due course.

The rector elections begin at 9 am on 18 March and end at 5 pm on 19 March. If no candidate receives a majority of votes, a second round will be held between the two candidates who received the most votes.  The second round, if necessary, will be held one week after results of the first election have been published.
