The statue Sæmundur á selnum (Sæmundur on the seal) in front of University of Iceland main building

The election committee for the upcoming election for rector of the University of Iceland decided yesterday that the election will be held on 18 and 19 March 2025. Voting will start at 9 am on the first day and finish at 5 pm on the second day. If no candidate receives a majority of votes, a second round will be held between the two candidates who received the most votes. The second round, if necessary, will be held one week after results of the first election have been published.

The election will be held entirely online in Ugla, the UI intranet, using a similar system to the one used for the most recent Student Council elections. Information about how the electoral system works will be published in Ugla. We will also soon be publishing information about how voters can access help with voting if they need it.

Three weeks before the election, i.e. 25 February, an electoral register will be published in Ugla. Voters can check whether they appear on the register and the weighting of their vote. The election committee will send out a special announcement when the electoral register is published.
