Equality days

The right to protest; inclusion in politics and society; actions against hate speech; challenges in Icelandic multicultural society; a concert with Elín Hall, and white privilege are among the subjects tackled at the annual Equality Days taking place in Icelandic universities from 12 to 15 February.

Equality Days have  long established themselves as a progressive, radical and forward-thinking forum approaching equality matters from diverse angles. They are now held for the sixteenth time. The aim of Equality Days is to stimulate discourse on equality in the broad sense of the word, and to make these issues visible at the University and society at large.

This year's theme is inclusion, marginalisation and human rights under threat with over twenty events taking place over 4 days in Icelandic universities, either on site, live streamed - or both.

The programme opens at noon on Monday 12 February with an online discussion with Lenya Rún Taha Karim and Sanna Magdalena Mörtudóttir on inclusion in politics, and how the issues of people with a migrant background can be better included on the agenda of parliament and the city/ municipal councils.

The days continue with events discussing current wars and conflicts, the reality of trans people; the status of people with disability assessment; women refugees; access of different groups to higher education; diverse voices of the Icelandic language; diversity and cultural sensitivity; media coverage on preschool matters, as well as a chat with equality waffles and coffee.

Events will be in either Icelandic or English, are free of charge and open to all. You can find the programme on the Equality Days website. We also encourage everyone to follow Equality Days on social media.
