The MS in financial economics focuses on the relationship between financial theory and practical economics. The programme is based on both theoretical knowledge of the markets as well as practical statistical analysis with the aim of preparing students for real-world challenges in finance.
The programme places particular emphasis on the practical application of methods and theories in economics and finance, enabling students to complete real-world projects in the field.
Applicants should already have a strong background in mathematics.

The programme is 90 ECTS and is organised as two years of full-time study.
Organisation of teaching
Applicants are not required to have pre-existing knowledge of economics. However, students who have not previously completed at least two courses in macroeconomics and two courses in microeconomics are required to take a preparatory economics course during the first block of the autumn semester.
This programme is taught in Icelandic but most textbooks are in English.
