One semester only Students staying for one semester only must register at the Service Desk in the University Centre upon arrival. Students must bring their passport or other valid ID and will receive a username and password to the University's intranet 'Ugla'. Health insurance Students are only insured by providing proof of their own insurance. A European Health Insurance Card from a public health insurance provider is sufficient. Please see the Icelandic Public Health Insurance website for more details. Academic year or longer According to law, Nordic citizens who are studying in Iceland for the academic year or longer must register their legal residence in Iceland. Students can only register their legal residence upon arrival. More detailed information Before arrival Health insurance Students must bring their European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) and E-104 or S-41 (whichever applies) with them to Iceland as they must register at the Icelandic Health Insurance during their stay. Students can only submit an application at the Icelandic Health Insurance after they have registered their legal residence in Iceland. Those who fail to register will not have health insurance for six months of residing in Iceland. See further information below under Upon Arrival. Upon arrival Upon arrival students must go to Registers Iceland, Student Registration, and the Service Desk in order to complete their registration. Registration Upon arrival students must go directly to Registers Iceland with their passport in order to register in the country. Note: Registers Iceland is located at Borgartún 21, 105 Reykjavík. Processing of the registration at Registers Iceland may take up to five weeks. ID number After submitting the application and required documents to Registers Iceland, students should immediately apply for an ID number at Student Registration, located in the University Centre. Students must bring their passport or other valid ID. Processing of the ID number may take up to three days. Student registration Three days later, students should go to the Service Desk in the University Centre with their passport or other valid ID to register as a student at the University of Iceland and obtain a username and password to log onto the Ugla intranet. During the stay Registration of health insurance As soon as students have registered their legal residency in Iceland, they must register at the Icelandic Health Insurance. Those who fail to register will not have health insurance for six months of residing in Iceland. Students should send an email containing a complete application (does not need a signature) and a scanned copy of their E-104 or S-41 (whichever applies) to international@sjukra.is. Changes of housing arrangements Registers Iceland must be notified of any changes to students' housing arrangements. Students who have an Icekey (íslykill) or digital certificates must file form A-251 online. Students who are unable to do this online must go to Registers Iceland and file the form in person.
