Rapid changes on the international scene require a new public approach towards societal and international challenges in national security. It is thus vital to discuss how we can use international collaboration in order to ensure our nation's safety in turbulent times. The National Security Council of Iceland and the Institute of International Affairs at the University of Iceland are therefore hosting an open seminar on the importance of international cooperation for national security. The seminar will take place in Norðurljós, Harpa, Wednesday, 22 March 2023, from 13:00 -16:00.

The seminar will, on the one hand, adress the current challenges faced by the international community and whether they require a new approach in international affairs. Whether trust towards international institutions has diminished, and whether they have the capacity to address the most dire threts we face.

On the other hand there will be a discussion on international collaboration and the critical safety concerns for Iceland; how we can use international cooperation to ensure our safety in turbulent times, but also where we can do better.

Katrín Jakobsdóttir, Prime Minister of Iceland and Chairman of the National Security Council of Iceland, gives the opening remarks and Þórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörð Gylfadóttir, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Christoph Heusgen, chairman of the Munich Security Conference give keynote addresses.

The seminar is open to all, it will be conducted in Icelandic, however we offer simultaneous translation in English.

Further information and registration can be found on the University of Iceland Institute of International Affairs website.
