Representatives of a newly appointed University of Iceland's University Council for the next two years met for their first meeting last Thursday 8 September. The council comprises the University Rector and members from the University community; students; Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation; and industry; the last mentioned are appointed by the University Council.
Members of the University Council from 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2024 are:
- Jón Atli Benediktsson, Professor at the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Rector of UI, chair
- Arnar Þór Másson, independent advisor and chair of Marel's board of directors, representative nominated by the University Council
- Brynhildur Kristín Ásgeirsdóttir, medical student, representative of the student body
- Davíð Þorláksson, lawyer and MBA, managing director Transport for the Capital Area, appointed by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation
- Hólmfríður Garðarsdóttir, professor at the School of Humanities' Faculty of Languages and Cultures, representative of University community
- Katrín Atladóttir, engineer and product manager at Dohop, appointed by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation
- Katrín Björk Kristjánsdóttir, student in social work, representative of the student body
- Ólafur Pétur Pálsson, professor at the School of Engineering and Natural Sciences' Faculty of Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science, representative of University community
- Silja Bára R. Ómarsdóttir, professor at the School of Social Sciences' Faculty of Political Science, representative of University community
- Vilborg Einarsdóttir, CEO of Bravo Earth, representative nominated by the University Council
