Mir war so traurig zumute, dass ich nicht weinen konnte

Registration is currently open for a new University of Iceland on-line course within the edX network: Gender, Violence and Post-Conflict States, which will be launched on 29 August 2022.

Understanding the gendered dynamics of violence in conflict and post-conflict situations is crucial to anyone considering a career in international development. This course provides an overview of the gendered dynamics of different types of violence, restorative justice, Apartheid, peacekeeping, and international policy frameworks on sexual and gender-based violence.

Taught by acclaimed international experts, this course will bring a gender lens to complex issues in international development that will allow you to analyse and address political conflict situations in ways that are more just and inclusive. The course is also part of the Gender Equality Studies and Training Programme (GRÓ-GEST) operated by the University of Iceland's School of Humanities under the auspices of UNESCO.

“This new edX course is ideal for those considering or dreaming of a future career in international development, or just anyone who want to learn the core theories, case studies and policy frameworks necessary for understanding the interplay between gender and violence in conflict and post-conflict contexts,” say Giti Chandra, author and research specialist and Thomas Brorsen Smidt, project and research manager at the Gender Equality Studies and Training Programme (GRÓ-GEST). It may also be beneficial for those who have long since enrolled in peace, development, or international studies, who want to gain a bit more of a gendered edge in their knowledge base.

EdX is a leading international on-line learning platform founded by Harvard and MIT of which the University of Iceland has been a partner since 2017. By joining the University of Iceland wants to increase access to dynamic and exciting study programmes, promote the University's work on an international level, and further develop teaching methods in line with rapid social and technological changes.

Registration is currently open on the edX website.
