The series began at the end of October last year with new artistic emphasis where Mikael Máni and his band, the bands Dymbrá, Umbra and Kælan mikla, and the musician Sóley all performed in successful live stream concerts. There has been a successful live stream of all the concerts and recordings can be found here.
It is with great pride that the University Concert series introduces Krummi who will perform in the Student Cellar with his band on 24 March at 2 P.M. The Student Cellar is a cosy and stylish space for the whole university community and others who want to visit.
Krummi Björgvinsson has been on the music scene for two decades and was the leader of the band Mínus at the turn of the century. Krummi is a versatile musician and has taken part in various and quite diverse music projects. As a solo artist he has chosen the path of country, folk, and blues. His first solo album will be released this spring. Krummi's songs have been heard over the airwaves lately, and it will be exciting to hear them in a cosy venue as the Student Cellar.
The concert takes place on Wednesday 24 March and begin at 2 P.M. There will be a live stream but the Student Cellar is also open for guests. There will be two compartments at a capacity of 40 guests each; a total of 80 guests. The current measures for disease prevention will be followed and prospective guests are asked to disinfect their hands and wear a mask until seated. There will also be a live stream of the concert and a recording after the fact. The concert is open to all and free of charge.
About the University Concert series
For decades, half a century really, this tradition of University concerts has been alive at the University of Iceland. These are monthly events during autumn and spring semester, and take place in University buildings. The new organiser and artistic director is Dr. Arnar Eggert Thoroddsen who says he is guided by the slogan "University for all - Music for all" in this coming academic year. Arnar says he takes his slogan seriously and will seek collaboration with musicians in diverse genres, such as pop/rock, jazz, classical music or just what is promising at each point in time.
