Equality days

Gendered impact of COVID-19, experiences of immigrant university students; engaging men in the fight against gender-based violence; disability; the reality of racism; career choices and gender stereotypes, and ecofeminism – these themes are only a fraction of the ambitious programme during the University of Iceland Equality Days, taking place 1 - 5 February. All events take place online due to the current restrictions on gatherings.

Equality Days is a collaborative project at all the Icelandic universities and now take place for the thirteenth time. Emphasis is placed on equality matters in a broad sense, with a view to promoting discussions and understanding of issues of equality whilst celebrating diversity.

The programme during Equality Days is packed and begins at noon on Monday 1 February with a joint event from all Icelandic universities which examines the experiences of immigrant university students. The days close with a stand-up with Helga Braga Jónsdóttir, Meistari Jakob and Kimi Tayler on Friday 5 February.

There will be over twenty events at the University of Iceland in between, varying from lectures and symposiums to movie and game nights. The subjects have rarely been more diverse, and the COVID-19 pandemic colours the programme for sure; both in content and arrangement.

The events take place in either Icelandic or English and the programme can be found on the Equality and Diversity website at the University of Iceland, whereas the programme for all the universities can be found on the Equality Days Facebbok page.
