The University of Iceland is in place 162 on the Times Higher Education list over the best universities for delivering work-ready graduates according to a large group of international corporations.

This is according to Global University Employability Ranking and was designed by the French human resources consultancy Emerging in collaboration with the German  consulting and market research company Trendence. The list was first published in 2011 and has been published under the auspices of Times Higher Education in recent years. 

The ranking is based on a a survey among leaders of large international companies in various fields. This year the list is based on answers from around 9,000 individuals in 22 countries all over the world.  The survey focuses on the universities participants consider best to prepare their students for employment. The list is considered to give an important insight into how well the universities are connected to the economy and society, and how well the students are prepared for participation in industry.

The University of Iceland first made the list in 2016 and is the only university in Iceland that has been placed on it. A total of 150 universities are on the list Higher Education Global University Employability Ranking; the University of Iceland is in 162 place as mentioned above.  It was ranked number 182 last year to compare. 

Active participation in society and industry is one of the main goals of the University's strategy and various steps have been taken to strengthen the ties with the Icelandic job market.  One such step is the University of Iceland Career Connection; a platform for increasing opportunities for students to put their knowledge and skills from their University studies to good use on the job market, thus strengthening even further student and researchers' collaboration with the field, institutes, and industry. 

"The University's strong position internationally, reflected in being placed among the best universities in the world on two of the most prestigious university rankings has created exciting opportunities for both students and staff for collaboration and employment in a global environment," says Jón Atli Benediktsson, rector of the University of Iceland, about the excellent success of the university in the ranking.
