Students can now for the first time enter the Practical Diploma programme in Icelandic as a Second Language in spring semester in January. Online applications can now be submitted here. Application deadline is 30 November 2020.
The general entrance requirements for the Practical Diploma are a foreign equivalent to the Icelandic matriculation examination (stúdentspróf) and a proof of English proficiency, TOEFL or IELTS (minimum score TOEFL 79, IELTS 6.5). Further information can be found here.
Students can start the spring courses of the program, by passing final exams of the fall courses in January. Thus, students need to pass the final exam of Speech and Expression I to start Speech and Expression II; in the same way, Vocabulary and Grammar I is a prerequisite for Vocabulary and Grammar II, etc. All exams are held on campus from 4th to 8th of January. Students must be in Iceland to take the exams. Course Catalogue for further information about the courses.
Students who don't pass the tests and students with no previous knowledge of Icelandic can take the following courses:
- Icelandic – the Basics is a practical 10-credit course which is designed for beginners in Icelandic. Further information about Icelandic - the Basics.
- Icelandic Culture gives an overview of Icelandic culture from the settlement to modern times with emphasis on contemporary culture and art. The course is taught in English. Further information about Icelandic Culture.
