Over 2,000 candidates receive their diplomas in both undergraduate- and graduate studies from the University of Iceland tomorrow, Saturday 27 June, in Laugardalshöll.  No guests are present at the ceremonies, however, there will be live streaming for families and friends online.

Just as in previous years there will be two graduation ceremonies, with some differences due to governmental restrictions.

In the first stage of the Graduation Ceremony, which starts at  10 am, undergraduate and postgraduate candidates from the School of Health Sciences and the School of Engineering and Natural Sciences will receive their degree certificates. The total number of graduates from the former is 501 and 283 from the latter.

The second one starts at 1.30 P.M. for candidates graduating from undergraduate and graduate studies from the Schools of Education, Humanities, and Social Sciences. The total number of graduates from the School of Social Sciences is 593; 270 from the School of Humanities; and 403 from the School of Education.

Emphasis has been placed on ensuring that the Graduation Ceremony is safe with regard to infection prevention. Laugardalshöll will thus be partitioned into two areas, marked A and B, with candidates divided between the areas for the ceremony. There will also be a separate area with seats two metres apart for those who wish for extra space.

The total number of graduating students from undergraduate studies is 1,112 and 938 from graduate studies. The total number of graduating students from the University of Iceland tomorrow is thus 2,050. Among the students are the first ones receiving their diplomas from various language programmes for practical purposes, and new programmes such as Global Studies and Practical Preschool Education.

The rector of the University of Iceland will address the ceremony as well as Guðrún Höskuldsdóttir, BS in Engineering Physics, and Isabel Alejandra Díaz, BA in Political Science and new president of the Student Council, on behalf of the graduates. The Icelandic musician GDRN will perform two songs at each ceremony.

The graduates from the University of Iceland in February were 399 in total making the total number of graduating students this year from the University of Iceland 2,449.
