People at University centre, seen from outside

Jón Atli Benediktsson, Rector of the University of Iceland, sent the following announcement to students and staff today:

"Dear students and colleagues,

The Minister of Health has accepted the Chief Epidemiologist's proposal to relax the assembly ban as of 25 May.

The main changes for the University of Iceland will be as follows:

Gymnasium

The University of Iceland Gym will open on Monday 25 May and will remain open, subject to current restrictions on mass gatherings, until the summer holidays start on 1 July. The maximum number of people permitted in the Gym will be 75 and guests will be asked to respect the two metre rule as far as possible.

All timetabled classes will take place in the gymnastics room on the ground floor. The weights and equipment room and the stretching and relaxation space upstairs will also be open. Antibacterial gel and wipes will be available. Guests are kindly asked to tidy up after themselves and clean equipment after use.

University Centre

The restrictions on the number of people permitted in the University Centre will be relaxed by increasing the number of chairs, with the maximum capacity raised to 200 in line with the announcement from the Chief Epidemiologist. Although the two metre rule has been relaxed, people are urged to proceed with caution, keep two metres apart where possible, and respect the wishes of those who wish to keep two metres apart.

Computer labs

Restrictions on the number of people permitted in computer labs will be relaxed by increasing the number of chairs. We would like to point out that although the two metre rule has been relaxed, people are asked to proceed with caution, keep two metres apart where possible, and respect the wishes of those who wish to keep two metres apart.

Best regards and have a good weekend,

Jón Atli Benediktsson, Rector / President"
