Scientific ethics and research integrity are vital values in university operations. It is a matter of great importance to the University of Iceland to strengthen and contribute to the fostering of these values among both students and staff. To that end several seminars will be organized on the subject in the coming months.
The first seminar will be held on Tuesday 5 June between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the University centre en þá heldur dr. when Dr Maura Hiney will be giving her lecture „Research integrity: What it means, why it is important and how we might protect it” followed by a workshop.
Participants in the workshop will be divided into groups and asked to analyse recognised challenges discussed in the lecture, e.g. copyright, authorial responsibility for scientific articles, challenges related to interdisciplinary collaboration concerning sensitive information, competency and power relations (e.g. between doctoral students and their supervisors), and how to prevent and respond to a lack of integrity in research.
Places are limited and therefore those interested are kindly asked to register for the event.
Dr Maura Hiney is currently Head of the Post-Award and Evaluation Unit at the Health Research Board Ireland and has specialised in matters regarding research integrity and has given numerous talks and workshops on the issue.
