The Centre for Small State Studies at the University of Iceland was recently awarded a grant from the European Union’s Jean Monnet Projects programme. This is a two years project titled Post-Brexit Europe: Lessons from the European Economic Area. By drawing on experience from the EEA/EFTA states, the project aims to make a significant contribution to the debate on the future of European integration in light of the UK’s imminent departure from the EU.
The total amount of the grant is 44.372 Euros, which will be used to organize workshops in Oslo, Brussels and Cambridge, as well as a conference in Reykjavik in the spring of 2019. At the end of each workshop, the project’s participants will issue policy recommendations and at the end of the project, a book will be published, based on the project's outcomes.
Baldur Thorhallsson, Professor of Political Science at the University of Iceland leads the project on behalf of the University of Iceland in cooperation with Jóhanna Jónsdóttir, Affiliated Senior Researcher, Pia Hansson, Director of the Institute of International Affairs and Tómas Joensen, Project Manager at the Centre for Small State Studies.
The Jean Monnet Projects grant is a great acknowledgement of the work carried out by the Centre for Small State Studies, which was recently also awarded a Jean Monnet Networks grant for a pan-European research project on small states in Europe.
