Veröld – Vigdís‘ house will be open to the public over the weekend. The University of Iceland wants to thank the public for its support for the Vigdís Finnbogadóttir Institute and the building of Veröld.
The open house will be between 12:30 and 18:00 on Saturday and 13 and 17 on Sunday. Guests will be able to take guided tours around the house on Culture Night and learn about its history and the work that is done there.
A new exhibition on the life and work of former president Vigdís Finnbogadóttir will also be open and free of charge over the weekend.
On Culture Night, there will be several events happening in the house, and guests will be able to get a sneak peak of what will be offered in Café Veröld, which will be opened soon on the ground floor of the building.
The programme starts with the opening ceremony of Culture Night. The Mayor of Reykjavík, Dagur B. Eggertsson, will launc the celebrations. Jón Atli Benediktsson, the Rector of the University of Iceland, will formally open the square south of the house, and former president Vigdís Finnbogadóttir will plant a tree on the square. A formal agreement between the City and the Vigdís International Centre for Multilingualism and Intercultural Understanding will also be signed.
