Dragon on the University day in University of Iceland

The University of Iceland opens its doors to the public Saturday 4 March, between 12 and 4 p.m. In previous years five to seven  thousand guests have attended the University day to acquaint themselves with the University’s varied curriculum, operation and services. 

This is a unique opportunity to talk to research scientists, students and experts in all major academic fields. Furthermore, student counsellors will be present for advice and information on the manifold service and the colourful social life open to University students will be presented.  

The open house takes place in several buildings on campus. The programme is diverse and the University Cinema features the famous explosive team, science cinema, and the University dance, The University Science Work Shop will, furthermore, be open from 12 to 4 pm.

The Schools of Social Sciences, Medicine, and Education will present their study programmes at the University Centre. Support services such as the International Office, the Student Counselling and Career Centre, Sciences communication and web, Student Council and others will also be present to introduce their services. The Student Cellar is worth a visit as UI students will perform in the band Hinemoa.

Presentation of the study programmes in the School of Humanities takes place in the Main Building where guests will be welcomed by University staff. Entertainment includes both song and dance with performances by the University choir, Japanese dance, the Chinese dragon and participants can learn Russian folk dance!

The star tent will be set up in Askja where the School of Engineering and Natural Sciences presents their study programmes. Shows are scheduled every 20 minutes but at 1.30 P.M. and 3 P.M. they will be conducted in English. Volcano experts will man the barbeque, offering grilled hotdogs to attendees. 

The University Day is a collaborative project including all the Icelandic universities. The following universities will present their study programmes at the University Centre - 1st floor: University of Akureyri, Hólar University College, the Agricultural University of Iceland, Bifröst University, Keilir – Atlantic Center of Excellence (as well as in Askja) and Iceland Academy of the Arts.

Reykjavik University and Bifrost University will present their study programmes on Reykjavík University campus. The Iceland Academy of the Arts presents their study programmes at Laugarnesvegur 91. Free bus transfer is available.

This day is open to all and admission is free.
