Iceland's representatives in the European contest for young scientists to be held in Brussels this autumn are Lilja Ýr Guðmundsdóttir and Ingibjörg Sóley Einarsdóttir, both students at Reykjavík's upper secondary school. They won the national contest for young scientists in Iceland 2016; a project managed by the University of Iceland.
Their project is entitled "Detecting differences among brain waves between thinking and performing an action for use in responsive programming". The project centres on developing a computer programme that enables users to carry out functions with their their mind. The European union contest for young scientists will be held in Brussels 15 - 20 September for the 28th time.
The contest was set up to strengthen the abilities of young people in research projects and increase initiative and independence. It is furthermore designed to promote the ideals of co-operation and interchange between young scientists.
Interested students can send in ideas for projects for the contest for the year 2017. All further information is given by Guðrún Bachmann, gudrunba@hi.is and Guðný Hrafnkelsdóttir, gudnyhr@hi.is
