The University of Iceland welcomes our international students by organising an orientation week at the beginning of the autumn semester. The aim is to introduce students to the support services offered, meet fellow students and help them adjust to a new culture. In order to facilitate getting around campus, the Student Council organises guided walks around the many University buildings. Over six hundred international students begin their studies at the University of Iceland this semester.
The orientation week began on 22 August and the programme includes various courses, organised walks around campus, receptions with music and light refreshments, School welcome meetings, and events organised by the Student Council.
One of the highlights is the welcome reception held yesterday on a sunny afternoon at the University Centre. Dr. Jón Atli Benediktsson, the Rector of the University of Iceland addressed the students as well as the Chairman of the International Committee of the Student Council. Numerous international students attended and enjoyed live music and grilled hot dogs. After the reception the fun continued in the Student Cellar with beer tasting and a DJ.
