Irina Domurath

The first doctoral defence in the framework of the joint doctoral degree between the Universities of Iceland and Copenhagen took place earlier this month when Irina Domurath defended her doctoral thesis: “Consumer Debt and Contract Law – Protection from over-indebtedness in EU mortgage law“. The defence took place at the Faculty of Law in Copenhagen and was chaired by Helle Krunke professor at the Faculty of Law of University of Copenhagen and Head of Ph. D. Studies.

Dr. Irina Domurath was born in Germany in 1980. She graduated in law at Humboldt University in Berlin in 2004 and with LL.M. degree in natural resources and international environmental law at the University of Iceland in 2010. She started her doctoral degree programme at the Faculty of Law of the University of Iceland in 2011 and was later accepted in 2012 in the joint doctoral programme agreed between law faculties of the universities of Iceland and Copenhagen. The defence of the thesis on 11 March 2016 was successful and she has been awarded a joint doctoral title in law.

The supervisors of the doctoral project have been M. Elvira Méndez Pinedo, professor of Faculty of Law University of Iceland, Anders Møllmann professor at the Faculty of Law of University of Copenhagen and Peter Rott professor of law at the University of Kassel (Germany).

Opponents were Vibe Ulfbeck, professor at the Faculty of Law of University of Copenhagen, Hans W. Micklitz, professor of law at the European University Institute (Florence, Italy) and Vanessa Mak, professor of law at the University of Tilburg (Netherlands).
